Lake Annecy: Reflections of Solitude and Color
My 2019 family trip to Lake Annecy in France left a lasting impression, inspired by the lake’s crystalline waters and a striking outdoor art exhibit featuring Elsa Tomkowiak’s vibrant floating spheres. Their luminous colors mirrored the surrounding mountains and sky, transforming the scenery and imbuing it with a buoyant energy I wanted to capture on canvas.
Motivated by this blend of art and nature, I painted two renditions of Annecy. In the first, a solitary figure sits on a lakeside bench, reflecting on the peaceful waters as Tomkowiak’s spheres float nearby, their colors echoed in gentle ripples and soft shadows. Through layered brushwork, I sought to encapsulate both the contemplative spirit of the lake and the joyful celebration of color and memory found at its edge.
